Cold Case Breakthrough: Iowa Woman Charged in 2011 Murder of Real Estate Agent
Authorities in West Des Moines have arrested 53-year-old Kristin Ramsey in connection with the 2011 murder of 27-year-old realtor Ashley Okland. The arrest follows a nearly 15-year investigation into the shooting, which occurred while Okland was hosting an open house at a model townhome. After pursuing over 1,000 leads and conducting hundreds of interviews, investigators secured a grand jury indictment against Ramsey on first-degree murder charges this March. Ramsey, who is currently employed at a title company previously linked to Okland’s former employer, is being held on a $2 million cash-only bond.
While the arrest marks a significant development in a case that haunted local law enforcement for over a decade, officials have yet to disclose a specific motive or clarify the nature of any relationship between the suspect and the victim. The breakthrough comes shortly after the establishment of the Iowa Attorney General’s Cold Case Unit, which prioritized the investigation. For the family of Ashley Okland, the indictment offers a measure of closure regarding a tragedy that left the community shaken for years. Local police officials expressed relief at the development, noting that the case remained a persistent focus for detectives throughout the long search for justice.
