Former Anesthesiologist Faces Attempted Murder Trial After Alleged Cliffside Assault on Wife
Legal proceedings are underway for Gerhardt Konig, a 47-year-old former anesthesiologist accused of attempting to kill his wife during a hiking trip on Oahu’s Pali Puka trail. Prosecutors allege that during a birthday excursion on March 24, 2025, Konig physically assaulted his wife, Arielle Konig, by striking her repeatedly in the face with a rock before attempting to force her over the edge of a steep cliff. The defendant currently faces serious charges of attempted murder and assault, to which he has entered a plea of not guilty.
The defense team maintains that the incident was a matter of self-defense rather than a premeditated attack. According to their account, the confrontation escalated after Konig confronted his wife regarding suspicions of infidelity, leading to a volatile physical altercation. As the trial continues, the court must weigh these conflicting narratives to determine the events that transpired on the trail. The case has drawn significant attention due to the stark contrast between the couple’s planned romantic getaway and the violent outcome that left the victim facing a life-threatening situation. The trial remains ongoing as both sides present evidence to the jury.
