Wyoming Man Faces Murder Charges After Security Footage Records Final Moments of 10-Month-Old Girl
John D. Haney, 41, remains in custody following his arrest for the first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse of his girlfriend’s 10-month-old daughter in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Law enforcement officials initiated the investigation after the infant was found unresponsive and cold in her bedroom in March 2025. Medical examinations revealed the child suffered from multiple fractures, including a broken arm and broken legs, which investigators characterized as highly concerning signs of abuse. The official cause of death was determined to be asphyxiation.
Evidence presented in the arrest affidavit includes motion-activated home security footage recorded approximately 30 minutes before the emergency call. The device captured the sound of what is believed to be the infant screaming shortly after a dog walked past the camera. The footage also shows Haney standing in a bathroom doorway before the recording abruptly stops. While Haney claimed he had placed the child down for a nap and discovered her not breathing after a brief time in the bathroom, investigators allege the timeline and physical evidence contradict his account. Haney is currently held on a $1 million cash bond as the legal proceedings move forward.
