California Suspect Faces Murder Charges Following Targeted Hatchet Killing in Lafayette
Authorities in Contra Costa County have charged 35-year-old David Swank Prince with murder following the brutal death of 34-year-old Christopher Jaber. Police responded to a 911 call on March 21 regarding a break-in at an accessory dwelling unit in Lafayette, where they discovered Jaber deceased from a hatchet attack. Officers apprehended Prince near the scene shortly after their arrival. Prosecutors currently characterize the incident as a targeted act of violence rather than a random crime.
The investigation has uncovered disturbing digital evidence suggesting the attack was premeditated. Records indicate that a Facebook account associated with Prince posted threats against Jaber roughly one month before the homicide, explicitly naming the victim and providing his residential address. A week prior to the killing, the same account allegedly posted a solicitation for someone to end the victim's life. Prince, who possesses a documented criminal history involving assault and weapons charges, remains in custody on $1 million bail. He is scheduled for arraignment on March 25 as officials continue to examine the nature of the relationship between the two men.
