New York Authorities Thwart Firebombing Plot Against Palestinian Activist Nerdeen Kiswani

New York law enforcement officials have successfully intercepted an alleged assassination plot targeting Nerdeen Kiswani, a prominent Palestinian American activist and co-founder of the organization Within Our Lifetime. Alexander Heifler, a New Jersey resident, faces criminal charges for allegedly planning to firebomb Kiswani’s Brooklyn residence. Investigators identified Heifler as an associate of the JDL 613 Brotherhood, a group established in 2024 that claims to be a successor to the Jewish Defense League. The original organization was previously classified by the FBI as a domestic terrorist entity due to its history of violent extremism.

Kiswani has publicly addressed the incident, describing the profound sense of vulnerability she experienced upon learning of the threat against her life. She characterizes the plot as a symptom of a broader culture of impunity that allows extremist factions to target pro-Palestine voices without sufficient oversight. While she expresses relief that the authorities intervened before the attack could be carried out, she emphasizes that the incident highlights a long-standing pattern of harassment that has frequently gone unaddressed. The arrest marks a significant development in the ongoing scrutiny of political violence directed at activists within the United States.
