Israel Severs Defense Procurement Ties with France Over Strategic Restrictions

The Israeli Ministry of Defense has officially suspended all military procurement contracts with France, citing a series of restrictive measures that officials claim undermine national security. This decision follows a recent French government directive that barred Israeli aircraft from utilizing its airspace for operations targeting Iran. Israeli authorities argue that these actions are particularly concerning given Iran’s expanding missile capabilities, which pose a direct threat to European stability as well as the Middle East.

Beyond the airspace restrictions, the move reflects deepening diplomatic friction characterized by what Israeli officials describe as a persistent pattern of obstruction. France has recently blocked Israeli defense firms from participating in major international military exhibitions and implemented a freeze on various export licenses. In response to these developments, Ministry of Defense Director General Maj. Gen. Amir Baram has ordered a complete transition toward domestic manufacturing and alternative international suppliers to fulfill military needs. Consequently, all formal communication channels between the Israeli Defense Ministry and French Defense Minister Catherine Vautrin have been terminated as the two nations navigate this significant breakdown in security cooperation.
