Florida Man Faces Homicide Charges After Brutal Attack on Roommate

Coy Pearson Bothwell, a 46-year-old North Port resident, remains in custody without bond following the violent death of his roommate, 32-year-old Tiffany Schiessl. Local authorities arrested Bothwell on April 5 after he initially contacted emergency services with a false report claiming an intruder had broken into his home. Upon arrival at the scene, responding officers discovered Schiessl deceased near the front entrance of the residence.

During subsequent questioning, Bothwell abandoned his burglary narrative and confessed to the fatal assault. Investigators state that the suspect used a kitchen knife and scissors to stab the victim repeatedly in the head, neck, and chest. The violence continued with the use of golf clubs, which reportedly shattered during the attack, before Bothwell held the victim down until she succumbed to her injuries.

While the motive behind the incident remains unclear, police confirmed that the suspect provided no information to suggest the act was committed in self-defense. Bothwell now faces a charge of second-degree homicide as the legal proceedings move forward in Sarasota County. He is currently held at the county jail awaiting a formal detention hearing.
