Elderly Babysitter and Accomplice Charged in Fatal Shooting of Atlanta Toddler
Atlanta authorities have charged 71-year-old Barbara Edwards and 35-year-old Jermaine Hardeman with felony murder following the death of three-year-old Armani Deshawn Lyons. Police responded to a shooting in the 900 block of Washington Street SW shortly after midnight on April 5, where they discovered the young boy suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite being transported to a local hospital for emergency care, the child succumbed to his injuries.
Edwards, who served as a longtime babysitter for the victim, is currently in custody at the Fulton County Jail. Meanwhile, law enforcement officials are actively searching for Hardeman, who remains at large. Both suspects also face charges of child cruelty and illegal firearm possession as a convicted felon. Investigators have not yet released details regarding the specific circumstances or motive behind the shooting.
