Colorado Man Sentenced to 96 Years After Unleashing Nearly 60 Shots Into Bar
A Colorado judge has sentenced a 33-year-old man to nearly a century behind bars for firing nearly 60 shots into a bar after being kicked out for fighting. Jimmy Cazares was convicted in February on charges including two counts of attempted murder, possession of a weapon by a previous offender, and criminal mischief. During the sentencing hearing, one victim described the moment of gunfire as feeling like "dying for a brief moment," while another recounted the traumatic experience of being struck by bullets.
The incident occurred on November 30, 2024, at Wyler's Pub and Brew in Greeley, Colorado. Police responded to reports of a shooting and found a bartender with multiple gunshot wounds, including one to the neck. Another woman was injured after being caught in the direct line of fire. Investigators later discovered that Cazares had been ejected from the bar earlier for fighting and returned approximately 40 minutes later, firing 59 shots into the establishment from outside.
Deputy District Attorney Lacy Wells emphasized the severity of the crime during sentencing, stating, "It's only by the grace of God that no one was killed that night." Wells noted that Cazares showed "no respect for human life" and that the victims would carry the mental, emotional, and physical scars of the attack for the rest of their lives.
Cazares faced a maximum sentence of 134 years but was ultimately sentenced to 96 years in prison. The case highlights the far-reaching consequences of such violent acts and the lasting impact on those affected.
