Teen Hero Stabbed While Protecting Mother and Daughter from Harasser at Fireworks Show

---

A 15-year-old boy named Da'Jon Hayes-Burr has been hailed as a hero after he intervened to protect a woman and her daughter from an alleged harasser, only to be stabbed in the process. The incident occurred near Louisville's annual Thunder Over Louisville fireworks show on April 18.

Da'Jon was with a group of teenagers when he heard the mother, Kristyn Stasel, scream for help after being harassed by Vasilis Sakellaridis, a 45-year-old man who has since been charged with first-degree assault and other offenses. Sakellaridis allegedly made inappropriate comments to Stasel and her 12-year-old daughter, prompting Da'Jon to step in and defend them.

During the altercation, Sakellaridis attempted to attack the group, leading to a physical confrontation where he stabbed Da'Jon in the stomach. Despite his injuries, Da'Jon managed to help protect the mother and child from further harm. Police arrived quickly, subduing Sakellaridis after a prolonged struggle.

Stasel expressed gratitude towards Da'Jon, calling him a hero despite his humility. Da'Jon's recovery is expected to be lengthy, both physically and emotionally. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support him through this challenging time.

Sakellaridis has pleaded not guilty to the charges, which include assault and public intoxication. He remains in custody on a $25,000 bond. The incident highlights the bravery of Da'Jon Hayes-Burr, whose actions prevented further harm to the mother and daughter, earning him widespread admiration and respect from the community.
