Gang Rivalry Trial Continues as Four Men Face Murder Charges in Julio Foolio Killing
TAMPA, Fla. — A high-stakes trial is underway in Tampa as four men stand accused of murdering rising rap artist Charles Jones, known as "Julio Foolio," in a gang-related killing tied to an ongoing feud between rival street groups. The defendants—Isaiah Chance, 23; Sean Gathright, 20; Rashad Murphy, 32; and Davion Murphy, 29—have all pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and conspiracy charges.
The incident occurred on June 23 when Jones was targeted in a "gang-related killing" during his planned birthday celebration in Tampa. Police allege that the defendants traveled from Jacksonville to Tampa with Alicia Andrews, Chance's girlfriend, who has already been convicted for her role in the shooting. Investigators link the motive to a yearslong gang war involving Jones' group, "6 Block," and rival gangs "Ace’s Top Killers" (ATK) and "1200." The defendants are alleged members of these rival groups.
Surveillance video from a Tampa hotel shows the suspects carrying firearms and targeting Jones' vehicle. Jones was killed, and three others were injured in the attack. Testimony from law enforcement detailed extensive forensic evidence, including 31 shell casings and bullet fragments, which tied the crime to three shooters and two vehicles. Detectives also used Tesla's "Sentry Mode" and hotel footage to track the suspects' movements.
The trial is presided over by Judge Michelle Sisco, who previously handled Andrews' case but was removed from sentencing due to a bias appeal. The defendants face potential death sentences if convicted. As the trial progresses, it sheds light on the violent consequences of gang rivalries and the ongoing efforts to bring justice for Julio Foolio's murder.
