Father’s Testimony Reveals Family Turmoil in Child Abuse Case
Derek Pedrin, the father of Alexavier “AJ” Pedrin, who died from blunt force trauma in February 2023, took the stand on Wednesday during the trial of Josie Dikeman, his girlfriend at the time of the boy’s death. Dikeman has been charged with homicide, chronic neglect, and repeated physical abuse, but she has pleaded not guilty to all charges. Pedrin described his son as a “fun” and “loving” child who enjoyed playing with cars and riding his bike. He also revealed that he had six children with three different partners, including two with Dikeman.
Pedrin testified that on February 10, the day before Alexavier was found dead, he came home from work to find his son sick on the couch. He saw the boy vomit but did not notice any signs of abuse. That evening, Pedrin was arrested and taken into custody after a no-contact order between him and Dikeman was violated. The next morning, he learned of his son’s death through a jail phone call with family members.
Prosecutors allege that Alexavier died from severe injuries, including bruises to his face, scalp, and neck, as well as internal damage such as a lacerated liver and brain swelling. A toxicology report revealed Xanax in the boy’s system at the time of his death. Dikeman’s defense team suggested during opening statements that Pedrin might be responsible for his son’s death, but Pedrin denied hitting his children during testimony.
The case has highlighted tensions within the blended family and conflicting accounts of what occurred leading up to Alexavier’s death. As the trial continues, both sides are presenting evidence to support their claims, with the jury tasked with determining the truth behind this tragic event.
