Turkey Finalizes Initial Procurement Deal for Domestic KAAN Stealth Fighters
The Turkish Air Force has officially placed its first production order for the KAAN, the nation’s indigenous fifth-generation stealth fighter jet. Turkish Aerospace Industries CEO Mehmet Demiroglu confirmed that the initial contract covers a batch of 20 Block 10 aircraft. This procurement marks a significant milestone for Turkey’s domestic defense industry, signaling a transition from the development phase to active military integration. Officials anticipate that this order represents only the beginning, with expectations for total fleet numbers to expand substantially in the coming years.
The KAAN program serves as a cornerstone of Turkey’s strategy to achieve greater autonomy in its aerial combat capabilities. By developing a homegrown stealth platform, Ankara aims to reduce its reliance on foreign-made fighter jets and modernize its aging air fleet. The successful transition to mass production highlights the country's growing technical capacity to manufacture advanced combat hardware. As the Block 10 aircraft begin to enter service, the Turkish military will likely focus on scaling production and refining the platform's operational capabilities to meet evolving regional security demands.
