In another apartment, a Venezuelan mother and her 16-year-old son were taken at gunpoint, with agents observed striking a man with the butt of a rifle and kicking another who was on the floor, causing the teenager to hyperventilate. A Mexican man from Unit 502 was zip-tied, told he was not welcome in the U.S., and had his Chicago ID card ripped up in front of him.

The raid, part of the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown, has been widely documented, but new accounts from those detained provide a detailed and harrowing account of the operation. These descriptions form the basis of administrative claims filed on behalf of the victims, seeking millions in damages and accountability for federal agents’ actions. The tenants are pursuing compensation for physical injuries, emotional trauma, “brutal detention,” and financial losses, with each claimant seeking approximately $5 million.
