College Choir Soloist Fatally Stabbed 40 Times While Doing Laundry in Seattle Housing Complex
A University of Washington music student, Juniper Blessing, 19, was horrifically stabbed 40 times while doing laundry in her on-campus housing building. The suspect, identified as Christopher Leahy, 31, allegedly targeted Blessing during the attack, which occurred around 10 p.m. on May 10 at the Nordheim Court apartment complex. Police revealed that Leahy was captured on surveillance footage entering the laundry room where Blessing was cleaning a dryer lint tray. The camera had been unplugged, but authorities managed to recover the video from its memory card, showing Leahy’s presence in the room before the attack.
Blessing, a talented choir soloist and alto for UW’s Chorale ensemble, was described by her family as an “amazing human being” with exceptional intelligence, talent, and sensitivity. Her tragic death has deeply affected her loved ones and the community. Leahy, who reportedly suffers from mental health issues, turned himself in to police after his family urged him to do so. He faces first-degree murder charges and was recently ordered to appear in court on May 18 with a $10 million bail.
The case has raised questions about campus safety and the circumstances surrounding Leahy’s past. Court records indicate that Leahy and his parents had previously sued his high school, alleging negligence in protecting him from bullying. The family described him as a “disabled” individual who became increasingly withdrawn over time. As authorities continue to investigate, the community mourns the loss of a young artist whose life was cut short under brutal and tragic circumstances.
