Teen Kills Pregnant Girlfriend and Friend in Vengeful Act
In a tragic incident that has shaken the community, Michael Sanchez, an 18-year-old from Arizona, has been arrested for fatally shooting his pregnant girlfriend, Rylee Montgomery, and her friend. The victims were found with gunshot wounds outside a home in Buckeye, west of Phoenix, on Thursday night.
Sanchez, who is being held without bond in the Maricopa County jail, faces charges including first-degree murder, endangerment, and interference with a monitoring device. Authorities believe he targeted Montgomery and her friend after learning they were together, as he had recently been involved in a road rage incident that led to his wearing an ankle monitor.
The relationship between Sanchez and Montgomery was marked by abuse. According to a GoFundMe campaign set up for the victims, Sanchez became controlling after discovering Montgomery's pregnancy in February. He allegedly threatened her multiple times, including sending a chilling message threatening her life just hours before the shooting. The attack occurred three hours after police were alerted to these threats.
Montgomery's stepmother described the incident as a targeted act of vengeance, with Sanchez traveling over 20 miles to confront his victims. The other pregnant teen involved in the attack was critically injured and delivered her baby prematurely at 25 weeks. Authorities believe Sanchez acted with intent to kill both victims, reflecting a pattern of violence tied to his abusive behavior.
This case highlights the dangers of intimate partner violence, particularly when combined with pregnancy. It underscores the urgent need for support systems to help victims escape such situations before tragedy strikes.
