Tragic Discovery: 18-Year-Old Found Shot, Dismembered, and Set on Fire in Alabama Woods
The remains of an 18-year-old man, last seen nearly a week prior, were discovered dismembered, shot, and partially burned in a wooded area of Barbour County, Alabama. Markavious Rumph, who was reported missing by his family on May 7 after he did not return from spending time with a friend, was found on May 11. His body showed signs of being shot, dismembered, and set on fire, according to authorities and family members.
Rumph was last seen leaving a gas station in Eufaula on May 6, entering a black Nissan vehicle with an unknown companion. His disappearance prompted his family to launch a multiday search with the help of volunteers, as local police initially did not assist in the search efforts. On May 12, law enforcement confirmed the scene was secure and began processing evidence at the wooded location where Rumph’s remains were found.
Rumph had recently earned his G.E.D. and was planning to attend welding school, family members shared with WRIC. His mother, Yolanda Wynn, expressed frustration over the lack of police involvement during the search phase, while his father described him as a lively young man who brought joy to those around him. Authorities have not yet identified a suspect in the case, though they believe Rumph may have known his attacker. The investigation remains ongoing as officials work to piece together the circumstances surrounding his tragic death.
