A violent confrontation between military police and civilians at the Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area has left one person dead and two others injured. The incident took place shortly after 9 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, near the Fort Hood military installation. Army officials confirmed the fatalities and injuries on Sunday morning following the chaotic encounter.
The conflict began when two military police officers arrived at the recreation center to intervene in an ongoing fight. While the officers attempted to disperse the crowd, the situation escalated into a shootout. Social media footage captures the moment the crowd scatters as gunfire erupts, showing an officer returning fire toward visible muzzle flashes. Reports indicate that more than a dozen shots were fired during the exchange.
Casualty reports confirm that one civilian died at a local hospital from their injuries. A second civilian remains in stable condition at a nearby medical facility, while one service member was treated and released on-site for minor injuries.
