Iowa Woman Receives Decade-Long Prison Sentence for Drug-Laced Lasagna Plot

An Iowa woman is heading to prison for ten years following a calculated attempt to terminate a pregnancy by poisoning a meal. Amber Snow, 36, received the maximum sentence on May 26 after pleading guilty to multiple charges, including child endangerment and the nonconsensual attempted termination of a human pregnancy. The investigation began in January 2026 after a family contacted the Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office regarding a suspicious lasagna delivered to their residence on December 28, 2025. Laboratory testing confirmed the dish was tainted with oxycodone.

The motive behind the poisoning appears to be rooted in a custody dispute. Snow and the targeted family shared custody of a child, who was reportedly aware of the dish and its intended purpose. Beyond the pregnancy-related charges, Snow faced counts of administering harmful substances to both adults and juveniles. The complexity of the case grew as investigators uncovered that the plot involved a co-conspirator, 35-year-old Matthew Uthoff. While Snow has accepted responsibility through her guilty plea, Uthoff maintains his innocence and is currently awaiting trial.

The incident highlights the severe legal consequences for premeditated acts of violence involving controlled substances. Snow’s conviction encompasses charges of conspiracy to commit a nonforcible felony and intent to deliver a Schedule II controlled substance. As the legal proceedings against Snow conclude, the focus shifts to Uthoff, whose trial is scheduled to commence on August 5. The case remains a stark example of how personal conflicts can escalate into criminal actions that threaten the lives and safety of multiple individuals.
