Longtime Murdaugh Housekeeper Breaks Silence on Family Dynamics Ahead of Retrial

Blanca Simpson, who served as the Murdaugh family’s housekeeper for two decades, is offering a new perspective on the household’s private life as Alex Murdaugh prepares for a second murder trial. During a recent appearance at CrimeCon 2026 in Las Vegas, Simpson promoted her new book, which details her long-term relationship with the family. Having started as a translator for Murdaugh’s Spanish-speaking clients, she claims that the disgraced attorney treated her like a sibling and that the family environment appeared harmonious and affectionate in the period leading up to the 2021 killings.

Despite the public narrative suggesting that Alex and Maggie Murdaugh were living separate lives, Simpson insists their interactions were normal and frequent. She disputes the scale of Alex Murdaugh’s documented opioid addiction, arguing that the financial figures associated with his drug habit do not align with her personal observations inside the home. While she acknowledges that she did witness prescription pills on the premises, she maintains that the extent of his substance abuse was exaggerated during previous legal proceedings.

Simpson did note significant behavioral shifts in the months preceding the murders, observing that Murdaugh became less concerned with his professional image and spent increasing amounts of time in bed. She also provided a specific detail regarding the day of the tragedy, stating that Murdaugh had requested his son, Paul, visit the property to assist with landscaping cleanup. These revelations emerge as the legal system gears up for a retrial, which was granted after the South Carolina Supreme Court determined that jury tampering by the Clerk of Court compromised the integrity of the original verdict.
