NYC Jewish Group Condemns Sale of Palestinian Land as Apartheid Practice
The New York chapter of Jewish Voice for Peace has issued a statement denouncing an upcoming event in Jerusalem where land illegally seized from Palestinians will be sold exclusively to Jews. The sale is set to take place tonight and is organized by the municipality of Jerusalem and the Israeli Building Center, both entities accused of discriminatory practices under international law. Critics argue that such events have no place being hosted or promoted in New York City.
The statement highlights ongoing issues in East Jerusalem where Palestinians are facing harassment and violence as developers construct luxury housing units available only to Jewish residents. Mayor Moshe Lion of Jerusalem is expected to attend the event, having previously announced plans for a "Judaisation plan" aimed at constructing over 100,000 new housing units in the city. This initiative has been met with significant criticism from human rights advocates who see it as part of broader efforts to alter the demographic composition of Jerusalem.
Additionally, concerns are raised about illegal annexations occurring in the West Bank, where Israel is reportedly displacing Palestinians at an alarming rate. Over 1,700 Palestinians were displaced in just the first quarter of 2026, surpassing the total number displaced throughout all of 2025. These actions further exacerbate tensions and highlight the need for international condemnation and intervention to address these human rights violations.
Jewish Voice for Peace emphasizes that New Yorkers recognize the importance of fair housing practices and reject discriminatory events like those planned in Jerusalem. The group calls on city officials to take a stand against such activities, asserting that apartheid policies have no place within their community or any other urban setting in the United States.
