Wisconsin Man Tells Police Missing Wife 'She's Done This Before' During Trial
Zachariah Rasch, 44, appeared before a jury on Tuesday as prosecutors played footage from a police bodycam showing his initial encounter with law enforcement regarding the disappearance of his wife, Crystal Rasch. On June 23, 2024, Dodge County Sheriff’s Deputy Zachary Kuckkahn arrived at the couple's property to investigate after Crystal was reported missing by her stepmother on June 11, 2024. In the video, Rasch denied any knowledge of his wife's whereabouts and claimed she had a history of disappearing for extended periods without explanation.
Rasch told Deputy Kuckkahn that Crystal "won’t talk for a while, then she’ll come back," implying this was not her first disappearance. He also stated he hadn't seen her in weeks and denied having any recent arguments with her. Prosecutors argue that Rasch's statements were part of an elaborate cover-up aimed at misleading investigators about his wife’s fate.
The case took another dramatic turn when Crystal Rasch’s longtime friend, Robin Reals, testified on Tuesday. She revealed receiving suspicious messages from a new account purportedly belonging to Crystal. These messages lacked the usual emojis and refused to include video calls or photos, raising doubts among friends who knew her well. Prosecutors allege that these messages were sent by Zachariah Rasch himself in an attempt to deflect suspicion away from his involvement.
The defense team has conceded that Rasch lied about his wife's disappearance but maintains that he did not kill her. They argue that Crystal may have taken her own life while handling a gun belonging to her husband, though this claim remains unproven and controversial among investigators and the public alike.
