Illinois Man Sentenced to 75 Years for Killing Wife and Driving with Her Body in Trunk

John W. Finney, 52, has been sentenced to 75 years in prison after being found guilty of first-degree murder for the death of his wife, Amy J. Finney, 42. The tragic incident unfolded on September 1, 2025, when local deputies received a report about a possible homicide involving a gray 2007 Ford Escape. An hour later, officers from Christopher Police Department spotted and pulled over the vehicle, discovering Amy's body inside.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office confirmed that evidence pointed to the crime scene being at Finney’s residence in Illinois. Preliminary findings indicated that Amy died from a gunshot wound during a domestic dispute with her husband on August 31, 2025. Following the murder, John Finney allegedly spent several hours driving around with his wife's body concealed in the trunk of his vehicle before he was apprehended.

The case highlights the devastating consequences of domestic violence and underscores the importance of recognizing warning signs and seeking help to prevent such tragedies. Authorities have now transferred Finney to the Illinois Department of Corrections to begin serving his lengthy sentence.
