Boyfriend Arrested for Murder After Victim Found Wrapped in Suitcase

A 37-year-old woman was found dead inside a suitcase at her Berkeley apartment after her loved ones reported her missing. On May 24, surveillance footage showed the victim entering her home with her boyfriend, Demarcus Jones, who is now facing murder charges. Two days later, Jones returned to the apartment carrying a black rolling suitcase that contained his girlfriend's naked body wrapped in plastic bags.

The property manager discovered the suitcase on May 30 and immediately contacted law enforcement when the victim could not be reached by her family or friends. An autopsy revealed head injuries consistent with blunt force trauma and neck injuries, indicating a violent struggle before death. Phone records confirmed Jones was at the apartment between May 24 and May 27.

Jones was arrested on June 2 and confessed to police that he had killed his girlfriend, placed her body in the suitcase, and left windows open while running an air purifier to mask any odors. He is currently being held without bail following his murder charge on June 4. Jones has a criminal history, including a felony assault conviction from 2019 for attacking another man and using homophobic language.
