Over 325 Organizations Rally Behind Medicare for All Reform Efforts
Over 325 organizations, ranging from labor unions to women’s rights groups and senior advocates, have issued an open letter in support of Medicare for All reform. The initiative is spearheaded by Public Citizen, National Nurses United, People's Action Institute, Social Security Works, Physicians for a National Health Program, Labor Campaign for Single Payer, and Healthcare-NOW, among others. This coalition includes prominent labor unions such as UAW, APWU, IFPTE, AFA-CWA, UE, and Actors Equity.
The letter underscores the growing national support for Medicare for All, which currently enjoys majority backing across the country, with 63 percent of all voters in favor and a staggering 90 percent approval among Democratic voters. In Congress, more than half of the House Democratic Caucus now endorses Medicare for All, marking a significant shift from previous sessions where such support was less prevalent.
The letter also addresses concerns that incremental reforms may not address the broader health care crisis adequately. It calls on policymakers to prioritize comprehensive reform rather than piecemeal solutions, arguing that bold action is necessary given soaring healthcare costs and widespread affordability issues affecting American families. As the 2026 midterms approach, these organizations emphasize the need for leaders who will champion transformative change over incremental adjustments.
The letter concludes by urging health care advocates to rally behind Medicare for All as a path forward, emphasizing its potential to provide universal coverage without excluding anyone from accessing necessary medical services. It also warns against proposals that might complicate an already dysfunctional system and allow corporations to continue profiting at the expense of public health needs.
