McDonald's Employee Seriously Injured by Hot Oil Attack
McDonald’s employee Jacob Smith, 20, is currently hospitalized with severe burns to his face, chest, and arms after being targeted in a hot oil attack at the fast-food chain’s Yuba City location on May 30. The incident occurred when Smith was preparing to count money before the end of his shift, only for someone to throw hot liquid onto him from behind. Medical staff are working diligently to minimize the extent of the burns and reduce the need for skin grafting procedures.
Police identified Jalani Bluett, a 23-year-old who also worked at the McDonald’s, as the suspect in this assault. He reportedly fled the scene after allegedly throwing hot oil onto Smith but was apprehended by law enforcement on May 31. Online court records show that Bluett has been charged with felony battery resulting in serious bodily injury, felony mayhem, and felony assault with a deadly weapon. During his arraignment, he pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Smith’s mother, Amber Smith, established a GoFundMe page to support her son's recovery efforts, emphasizing the severity of his injuries and the impact on his future plans. The campaign highlights Jacob’s dedication as an employee and his commitment to building a stable life before this tragic incident occurred. Law & Crime reports that Bluett is being held without bail pending further legal proceedings, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for June 12.
While authorities have not disclosed any motive behind the attack, Smith's case has drawn significant attention from local media and the community, underscoring concerns about workplace violence and safety in fast-food establishments.
