Florida Man Arrested After Hiding in Air Conditioner to Avoid Deputies
A 33-year-old man named James Myers was arrested by the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office on June 8 after he allegedly hid inside an air conditioner's ductwork to evade law enforcement. The arrest followed a warrant issued for his failure to appear in court, stemming from charges of grand theft, fleeing and eluding, driving with a suspended license, super-speeding, and resisting arrest. These charges originated from an incident in March where Myers was accused of stealing a truck.
Upon arriving at Myers' residence on June 5, deputies found him wedged inside the air conditioner's air handler behind ductwork. The press release humorously described his position as akin to a contortionist auditioning for Cirque du Soleil. A K-9 unit eventually apprehended Myers without further incident. Additionally, Joann Rosario, a 36-year-old woman who was reportedly helping Myers hide, was charged with obstruction of justice and found inside a closet at the scene.
Myers is currently being held without bond, while Rosario was released on recognizance pending further legal proceedings. The unusual circumstances surrounding this arrest highlight the lengths some individuals will go to avoid law enforcement, drawing comparisons to other bizarre evasion tactics reported in recent news.
