Georgia Caregiver Arrested for Allegedly Ignoring Dementia Patient's Fall

A caregiver at Corinth Road Personal Care Home in Newnan, Georgia, has been arrested and charged with exploitation and intimidation of disabled adults after allegedly failing to assist an 83-year-old dementia patient who fell. Ann Cowan, 63, was reportedly captured on video ignoring the man as he fell while she continued filming. The incident occurred on May 27 when local authorities received a report about elder abuse at the facility.

Detectives uncovered multiple reports of alleged abuse against Cowan during their investigation. They found photographic evidence suggesting that Cowan had placed medication out of reach for a wheelchair-bound resident, further implicating her in mistreatment. According to the patient's daughter, Danielle Slappey, her father's condition deteriorated rapidly after moving into Corinth Road Personal Care Home just weeks before the video incident.

Slappey transferred her father to another nursing home where he quickly showed signs of improvement, highlighting the severity of his earlier neglect and abuse at Corinth Road. A former coworker of Cowan’s described witnessing an assault by Cowan on a different elderly resident with dementia, underscoring concerns about systemic issues within the facility.

Cowan was arrested in DeKalb County and is currently held at the Coweta County Jail pending further legal proceedings. The nursing home confirmed that Cowan no longer works there, but her actions have raised serious questions about the care provided to vulnerable elderly patients in such facilities.
