Michigan Parents Sentenced for Starving and Torturing Adopted Daughters
Parents Jessica Klimp, 45, and Jason Klimp, 47, have been sentenced to an additional eight years and three months in prison for the severe abuse they inflicted upon their adopted daughters. The couple had already received a decade-long sentence from Tennessee courts for similar offenses committed while staying at a rental home there. In Michigan, where the investigation began after the arrest in Tennessee last year, authorities uncovered evidence of systemic torture involving two of the Klimps' four adopted children.
The abuse included starving the girls and confining them to dog cages and a homemade straitjacket. One daughter was found severely underweight and suffering from malnutrition, with her body temperature dangerously low at 95.6 degrees when paramedics arrived. The girl's condition led authorities to believe she was younger than her actual age of 12 due to extreme neglect.
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel emphasized the heartbreaking nature of the abuse endured by the children and expressed hope that these convictions would bring a sense of justice and healing for the victims. The investigation revealed that the couple also punished their adopted daughters severely for minor infractions, such as wetting the bed, forcing them to sleep on plastic storage containers in a cold basement without blankets.
