Man Faces Homicide Charges After Shooting 12-Year-Old Boy During Courtyard Fight

A deadly altercation in Nashville has left a young boy dead and the community reeling. According to police, Devin Orr, a 24-year-old man, is being held on charges of criminal homicide for fatally shooting Damarion Morehead, a 12-year-old boy, during an alleged fight that erupted over a female dispute.

The incident occurred in a courtyard where six or seven individuals had gathered to settle their differences. Witnesses reported seeing the group, including Damarion, physically assaulting Orr before he retrieved a firearm and fired shots as people fled the scene. One of these shots struck Damarion in the head, causing him to collapse. Emergency services rushed the boy to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Damarion's family is devastated by the loss, with great-grandmother Nancy Givans questioning why Orr would be involved with younger individuals and why he brought a gun to what was supposed to be a fight between peers. Damarion, an avid football player and middle school student, had recently expressed gratitude towards his great-grandmother for her care.

Orr has been arrested and is currently being held without bond at the Davidson County Jail. He admitted during questioning that he discarded the weapon used in the shooting inside a sewer on Charlotte Pike. Orr is scheduled to appear in court this week as legal proceedings continue.
