Florida Man Arrested for Detaining Teen in Dryer During Sexual Assault

A 53-year-old man from the Florida Keys has been arrested and charged with kidnapping and unlawful sexual activity after a teenage girl was found locked inside a dryer at his home. The incident occurred on June 21 when the unnamed victim called 911 to report that she was being held hostage. Upon arrival, deputies discovered the teenager trapped in the appliance and transported her to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

According to investigators, Christopher Michael Veit had been engaging in ongoing sexual activity with the minor. When the victim expressed a desire to leave, Veit allegedly restrained her by locking her inside the dryer and confiscating her phone. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office was alerted after she managed to make the emergency call from within the appliance.

During their investigation at the scene, authorities also uncovered counterfeit currency, which prompted the involvement of the U.S. Secret Service. Veit was arrested on charges including kidnapping/false imprisonment, interference with child custody, and unlawful sexual activity with a minor. The case is still under active investigation, and additional charges may be filed as more evidence comes to light.

The victim's connection to Veit remains unclear, as she reportedly came from out of state. This disturbing incident highlights the ongoing need for vigilance in protecting minors from exploitation and abuse.
