Pentagon Launches "War Force" Initiative to Recruit AI Experts and Software Engineers

The Department of Defense has unveiled a new recruitment campaign dubbed “War Force,” aimed at attracting top-tier artificial intelligence and software engineering talent. The initiative, spearheaded by the Pentagon in collaboration with the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), seeks to embed tech specialists within military units to enhance operational capabilities and ensure technological superiority for U.S. forces.

According to OPM officials, War Force will focus on hiring individuals capable of designing, building, integrating, and maintaining cutting-edge technologies such as frontier AI, machine learning, automation, and data systems. The program is designed to connect qualified candidates with high-impact technical roles within the Department of Defense, emphasizing the need for advanced technological support at all levels of military operations.

The recruitment effort includes positions known as "forward deployed engineers," offering salaries up to nearly $200,000 annually for a two-year commitment. To be eligible, applicants must be U.S. citizens and possess or be able to obtain a Secret or Top Secret security clearance. The application deadline is set for July 17.

This initiative aligns with the broader Tech Force program established by the Trump administration, which aims to bolster federal government service through increased technological expertise. Pentagon Chief Technology Officer Emil Michael emphasized that War Force represents a critical step towards modernizing military operations and maintaining American dominance in military technology for future generations.
