Diverse Fleet of Military Aircraft to Soar Over Washington for 4th of July Celebrations

Today, as part of the nation's 250th birthday celebrations in Washington, D.C., a nine-hour aerial display will take place over the National Mall. The event, organized by Freedom 250, promises an impressive showcase featuring more than 30 waves of aircraft from various branches of the U.S. military, including historic and modern fighter jets, bombers, and helicopters. While President Donald Trump previously hinted at "hundreds of planes," specific details about the number of aircraft involved were not provided by Freedom 250.

The aerial demonstration will kick off with a flyover by four F-5s from NASA at 1:14 p.m., followed shortly after by additional flights showcasing different eras and capabilities. The Coast Guard will lead service branch participation, initiating the event with two waves of search and rescue aircraft. Subsequently, military parachute teams such as the Army's Golden Knights and the Navy’s Leap Frogs are scheduled to perform.

The program will continue with an array of helicopters from various branches, followed by fleet reviews for the Air Force, Marines, and Navy, each divided into several waves. Notably, the Air Force segment includes a dedicated showcase for Air Force Special Operations Command, potentially featuring specialized aircraft like gunships and refueling tankers. This comprehensive display aims to highlight the breadth of military aviation capabilities while celebrating America's rich history and ongoing contributions to national security.
