Delaware Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for Brutal Murder of Ex-Girlfriend

A 33-year-old man from Delaware has been sentenced to life imprisonment after pleading guilty to the brutal murder of his ex-girlfriend. On December 17, 2024, Nobert Matara awaited Tracy Nyariki's return home and attacked her upon her arrival, stabbing her a staggering 58 times before dismembering her body. He then transported the remains across state lines in a suitcase hidden in his car trunk to a motel in Maryland where he was apprehended by law enforcement.

Attorney General Kathy Jennings described the case as "beyond disturbing," highlighting the severity of Matara's actions and the trauma inflicted upon both the victim and her family. The Delaware Attorney General’s Office confirmed that on June 26, 2025, a judge handed down the life sentence to Matara following his guilty plea in April.

Jennings expressed condolences for Nyariki's family during the sentencing hearing, noting that she hoped this legal outcome would provide some measure of peace and closure. The case underscores the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in dealing with violent crimes involving intimate partners and highlights the need for continued support for victims' families through such difficult times.
