Kentucky Man Held for Four Months Without Reporting Wife's Death
A 59-year-old man from Hardin County, Kentucky, has been arrested and charged with abuse of a corpse after his wife's remains were discovered in their home four months following her death. John George Emrich was taken into custody on June 19 when deputies responded to a welfare check request at the couple’s residence on Homestead Avenue.
Upon arriving at the property, law enforcement officials encountered Emrich and learned that his wife had passed away in February but had not been reported as deceased until this recent intervention. The exact cause of her death remains undisclosed, and no public identification has been made regarding the woman involved. Authorities are investigating further details surrounding the circumstances leading up to the discovery.
Abuse of a corpse is classified as a Class D felony under Kentucky law, potentially resulting in a prison sentence of up to five years. Emrich was booked into the Hardin County Detention Center following his arrest and currently faces a $5,000 bond while awaiting his court appearance scheduled for Monday.
