Florida Man Charged with Murder After Shooting Roommate Who Moved In

A 32-year-old man from Miami, Florida, Jermaine Carol Grant, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder for allegedly shooting his roommate, Xavier Pringle, multiple times. The incident occurred on Saturday night at a home in Miami where the two men lived together. Police responded to reports of a shooting and found Pringle suffering from several gunshot wounds; he later died at the hospital.

According to an arrest affidavit reviewed by Law&Crime, Grant claimed self-defense during his interview with police, stating that he feared for his life because he believed Pringle was holding what appeared to be a real gun. However, evidence collected at the scene contradicted this claim: investigators found a BB gun in Pringle's waistband and 11 spent shell casings from a separate room. Additionally, surveillance footage showed Grant firing shots toward where Pringle was lying on the kitchen floor.

Witnesses inside the home reported that tensions had been escalating between Grant and Pringle over recent days. The night of the shooting, a heated exchange occurred in the kitchen when Pringle allegedly splashed water on Grant while breaking up ice to chew. This led to an argument that culminated in Grant's fatal shooting of Pringle.

Grant is being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and faces charges including second-degree murder with a deadly weapon. His next court appearance details were not immediately available.
