Iranian Warship Engulfed in Flames at Konarak Port Following Strikes

Satellite imagery from Vantor confirms an Iranian Alvand-class frigate is ablaze in Konarak, a port city strategically located in Iran's southeastern corner along the Gulf of Oman. This incident marks the first confirmed significant damage or loss of an Iranian warship since the commencement of the joint U.S. and Israeli air campaign against the country. The vessel, identified as an Alvand-class frigate based on prior satellite observations, is seen emitting dense dark smoke while docked pier-side.

Konarak's location provides Iran with crucial access to the Indian Ocean and is recognized as a hub for drone and missile capabilities, including anti-shipping armaments capable of reaching beyond the Gulf of Oman. Vantor's imagery also captured drone-launching activities in the vicinity of Konarak, specifically noting the presence of Shahed-136 type drones, which are currently being used to strike U.S.-allied Arab Gulf states. The Alvand-class vessels, though referred to as frigates by Iran, are more accurately categorized as corvettes due to their 1,500-ton displacement.
