Tennessee Man Arrested for Attempting to Run Over Woman with Child in McDonald's Drive-Thru
A 22-year-old man from Memphis, Tennessee, has been arrested and charged after allegedly attempting to run over a woman holding her one-year-old child at a local McDonald’s drive-thru. Shai Wise faces two counts of aggravated assault, one count each of domestic assault and reckless driving.
The incident occurred on Winchester Road in the Hickory Hill neighborhood earlier this week when police received a call about a domestic disturbance involving Wise. According to law enforcement, Wise attempted to run over the victim twice while she was holding their child outside her vehicle at the McDonald’s drive-thru lane. The woman had initially been inside the car with Wise but managed to escape and take the child out of harm's way before he made his dangerous attempts.
Witnesses reported that Wise drove erratically through the parking lot, posing a significant threat not only to the victim but also to other patrons and bystanders present at the restaurant. Following the initial assault attempt, Wise led police on a high-speed chase through residential areas near the McDonald’s location.
During the pursuit, law enforcement observed Wise weaving in and out of traffic while speeding excessively. The chase ended when he turned east off Ridgeway Road, where officers were able to pull him over and arrest him. It was discovered that Wise had an 11-year-old child still inside his vehicle during the dangerous high-speed chase, placing the minor at significant risk.
Wise’s actions have raised concerns among local residents about public safety in Memphis. One resident expressed frustration upon speaking with a TV station: "It's sad and crazy how people can just do that to kids," she said. "This type of thing happens too often here."
After his arrest, Wise was assessed a $10,000 bond which he posted later the same day, allowing him to be released from jail on Thursday. He is scheduled to appear in court for arraignment on August 17th.
The case highlights ongoing issues with domestic violence and public safety concerns in Memphis, underscoring the need for continued efforts to address such incidents and protect vulnerable individuals and children.
