Florida Man Pleads Guilty to Manslaughter After Ramming Uncle During Argument
A 24-year-old Florida man named Jordan Aronson has admitted to manslaughter with a weapon in the death of his uncle, Scott Grebler. The tragic incident occurred on June 13, 2023, when Aronson and Grebler engaged in a heated verbal argument at Grebler's home. Prosecutors noted that Grebler had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and experienced severe mental health issues.
The altercation was captured entirely on video, showing the two men exchanging harsh words but not engaging in physical violence. After the dispute escalated, Aronson entered his Jeep and began to back it out of the driveway. As he did so, Grebler threw binders and papers at the vehicle. At this point, Aronson allegedly accelerated forward, striking Grebler with the Jeep and causing him to collide violently with a nearby palm tree.
Initially charged with second-degree murder, which carries a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison, Aronson agreed to plead guilty to manslaughter with a weapon as part of a plea deal. This reduced charge allowed him to avoid facing the harsher penalties associated with the original murder charge. The agreement stipulated that Aronson would serve a 10-year prison term, followed by five years of probation.
During sentencing on July 13, 2026, Judge Gregory Green accepted the plea deal and imposed the agreed-upon sentence. In addition to the jail time, Aronson was ordered to complete 50 hours of community service and attend an anger management course upon his release. His attorney requested that the Florida Department of Corrections consider placing him in a facility near South Florida for family support during incarceration, though Judge Green acknowledged this recommendation would not guarantee compliance from the DOC.
The case has drawn significant attention due to its unusual circumstances and the stark contrast between the initial murder charge and the eventual manslaughter conviction. Legal experts have noted that such plea deals are often negotiated to avoid lengthy trials and ensure a more predictable outcome for both defendants and prosecutors alike. The incident highlights the potential dangers of heated confrontations, especially in situations where one party may be dealing with significant health challenges.
The tragic death of Scott Grebler serves as a somber reminder of the unpredictable nature of family disputes and the devastating consequences that can arise from seemingly minor disagreements escalating into violent confrontations.
