Florida Woman Indicted for Murdering Partner's 3-Year-Old Daughter

A 29-year-old woman from Tampa, Grace Wingate, has been indicted by a grand jury and held without bond after she was charged with the murder of her girlfriend’s three-year-old daughter, Ka’mora Figgs. The incident occurred on April 25, 2026, when Wingate allegedly inflicted fatal injuries on the child while they were at Wingate's apartment.

According to court documents, which have been redacted and are not available for public viewing, Wingate was with Ka’mora at her residence when she is believed to have beaten the girl to death. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office initiated an investigation after emergency room doctors reported several inflicted injuries on the child. Medical examiners later confirmed that Ka’mora's death was a homicide.

During Wingate’s brief court appearance, which took place virtually, Judge J. Logan Murphy stated that he could not address bond issues because another judge had already ruled to hold her without bail pending further proceedings. The Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office is pursuing charges of first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse, and child neglect with great bodily harm against Wingate.

Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister issued a statement expressing deep concern over the case: “This is an extremely heartbreaking and disturbing situation where a vulnerable child lost her life due to violence from someone who was supposed to care for her. Our community will not tolerate such acts of cruelty, especially towards children.”

The tragic death has also sparked public outcry and support for Ka’mora’s family. A GoFundMe page established by the victim's grandmother in honor of Ka’mora had raised over $11,000 as of Wingate’s court appearance.

Wingate is scheduled to return to court on July 27th for an arraignment hearing, where she will face formal charges and enter a plea. This case highlights ongoing concerns about child safety and the severe consequences faced by those who abuse their guardianship over young children.
