Iran Threatens Bulgaria Over Potential US Military Base

Iran's foreign ministry spokesman issued a stern warning to Bulgaria Tuesday against allowing U.S. military operations from its territory, specifically mentioning the deployment of up to eight American tanker aircraft at a Bulgarian air base. The move by the United States comes as tensions with Iran continue to escalate following the breakdown of an interim ceasefire agreement.

The Bulgarian government is currently seeking parliamentary approval for the stationing of these aircraft at Bezmer military facility, located approximately 160 miles southeast of Sofia. Esmail Baghaei, the spokesperson for Iran’s foreign ministry, warned Bulgaria that facilitating such activities would be tantamount to complicity in what Tehran considers "aggression and war crimes." He urged Sofia not to become an accomplice of those he described as aggressors against his country. The warning highlights the increasingly tense atmosphere between Iran and its adversaries.
