Florida Man Arrested for Knife Threats on City Bus

A 40-year-old man from Miami Beach was arrested this week after he allegedly brandished a knife and made threatening statements to passengers aboard a city bus. According to police reports, Demetrius Byrd was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon following the incident.

The alarming event occurred on Monday morning when emergency services received multiple calls about a man armed with a knife on a Miami-Dade Transit bus in Miami Beach. Upon arrival, officers boarded the bus and spoke to the driver who reported witnessing an altercation between Byrd and another passenger. The driver informed police that Byrd had waved a knife at other passengers and shouted, "Who wants to die today?"

Officers located Byrd near the scene of the incident and conducted a search, finding what they described as a silver multi-tool in his possession. During their investigation, officers interviewed both the bus driver and another passenger who corroborated the account of the threatening behavior.

One witness recounted that upon boarding the bus, Byrd began yelling and screaming, prompting attempts by other passengers to calm him down. When one individual told Byrd to "shut up," he allegedly produced his multi-tool and revealed a blade. The witness stated that Byrd then approached with the knife pointed at him while asking if he wanted to die.

Byrd was subsequently taken into custody and transported to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he is being held on $5,000 bond pending further legal proceedings. No court date has been set yet for his next appearance in court.

Local media reports have noted that Byrd once had a promising career as a college football player at Louisiana State University and was even drafted by the San Diego Chargers in 2009, though he never played professionally for them.
