Singer d4vd's Attorney Argues Lack of Evidence in Teen Murder Case

Singer David Burke, known professionally as "d4vd," is facing a critical legal challenge as his attorney Blair Berk argues for the dismissal of murder charges against him. The case revolves around the death of Celeste Rivas Hernandez, whose dismembered body was found in Burke's Tesla on what would have been her 15th birthday.

Burke has pleaded not guilty to charges including first-degree murder and continued lewd acts with an individual under 14 years old. Prosecutors allege that Burke murdered Celeste on April 23, 2025, after a tumultuous period of online and in-person interactions that began when she was just 11 years old.

During the preliminary hearing, LAPD Detective Corey Farell testified about thousands of messages exchanged between Burke and Celeste. In one particularly chilling message sent by Celeste on April 22, 2025, she threatened Burke with violence: "I will end your career and your life."

Prosecutors have presented evidence suggesting that Burke tried to cover up the crime after killing Celeste. He allegedly continued texting her from his phone even though she was dead, asking where she was and why she wasn't responding.

The defense team has attempted to cast doubt on the prosecution's case by highlighting inconsistencies in Celeste’s behavior. Berk pointed out instances where Celeste claimed to be 18 years old during their interactions. Additionally, Burke’s legal counsel noted that Celeste's family had been aware of her relationship with him and even signed a consent form allowing her to travel alone with Burke.

Despite these arguments from the defense, prosecutor Beth Silverman maintains that the evidence against Burke is overwhelming. She argued that the messages exchanged between Burke and Celeste provide a clear picture of their illicit relationship and the threats made by Celeste shortly before her death. Analysts testified that blood found in Burke’s garage matched Celeste's genetic profile.

The case has drawn significant public attention due to its graphic nature and the involvement of a young celebrity figure. The prosecution asserts that Burke planned to incinerate Celeste's remains but was unable to do so, leading him to dismember her body instead.
