Florida Man Breaks into Estranged Wife's Home and Kills Her Over Jealousy

A 54-year-old man from Florida broke into his estranged wife’s apartment Monday evening and killed her after becoming enraged over her dating new people. Robert Reyes Jr., who had a history of domestic abuse, forced entry into Jacqueline Reyes’ home on Reena Drive in Daytona Beach around 6 p.m.

Jacqueline was speaking to one of their three sons at the time when the incident occurred. The son immediately called 911 upon hearing his mother’s final moments and the sound of gunfire. "I heard my mom saying, 'Put down the gun,' and then I heard it go off," he told dispatchers.

Daytona Beach Police Chief Jakari Young stated that Reyes fled the scene after the shooting but was later spotted by traffic cameras approximately 50 miles away in Titusville. While attempting to evade police, Reyes crashed his vehicle into a pond. He was found dead from what authorities believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Chief Young revealed that Reyes had been trying to get back with Jacqueline for some time and became extremely angry when he discovered she was dating other individuals. "He forced his way in and executed her," Chief Young told reporters, emphasizing the motive behind the violent act as jealousy over his wife's new relationships.

Jacqueline had moved to Daytona Beach about a year ago to escape Reyes’ abusive behavior. However, even after moving away, Jacqueline continued to experience harassment from her estranged husband. According to Chief Young, Reyes previously broke into her apartment and bleached some of her clothes in an act of retaliation.

"My heart goes out to the three sons that they have who basically lost both parents within a two-hour time span," said Chief Young, expressing his condolences for the family’s tragic loss. The incident highlights the ongoing struggle many victims face when trying to escape abusive partners and the severe consequences such situations can lead to.

This case underscores the importance of support systems and protective measures for individuals in abusive relationships, as well as the need for stricter enforcement of restraining orders and other legal protections against domestic violence perpetrators.
