IRGC Highlights Speedboat Fleet's Role in Gulf Deterrence Tactics

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has highlighted the strategic importance of its speedboat fleet in the Persian Gulf, emphasizing their role as a key deterrent against potential US military threats. The front page of the Iranian newspaper Hamshahri, known for its close ties to the IRGC, featured an extensive report detailing how Iran's naval strategy relies on small, high-speed boats to challenge larger fleets and increase enemy costs.

According to the report, these speedboats are a critical component of Iran’s defense mechanism in the Strait of Hormuz. The fleet has been instrumental in employing the "swarm attack" tactic over the past two decades, complicating American military operations in the region. This strategy involves deploying numerous small vessels that can overwhelm larger naval forces with their sheer numbers and agility.

Hamshahri noted that Iran's strategic encirclement of the Strait of Hormuz is now nearly complete, thanks to a combination of speedboats, naval mines, cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, and drones. Brigadier General Hossein Alaei, a former commander of the IRGC Navy who served during the Iran-Iraq War, has called for an end to hostilities with the United States. However, figures like Alaei from the older generation of IRGC commanders are pushing for a cessation of hostilities and renewed peace efforts.
