Former 'Jeopardy!' Winner Pleads Guilty to Secret Peeping Charges

Former "Jeopardy!" champion Philip Joseph "Joey" DeSena, 44, has pleaded guilty to two felony counts of secret peeping in Currituck County, North Carolina. The charges stem from an incident that occurred on October 10, 2025, when DeSena allegedly installed hidden cameras in the bathroom and bedroom of a rental home in Corolla, North Carolina.

According to arrest warrants obtained by WBTV, DeSena placed two USB wall chargers with concealed cameras inside them. The victim, who was staying at the property for a wedding, discovered the devices and reported the incident to authorities. She had no prior knowledge that she was being recorded without her consent.

A warrant for DeSena's arrest was issued on November 26, 2025. He voluntarily surrendered to law enforcement on December 1, 2025, and was released on bond two days later. The case proceeded with an indictment against him on January 20, 2026.

DeSena's criminal history includes his work as a professional engineer and appearances on the popular game show "Jeopardy!" in November 2024 and January 2025. During these episodes, he won a total of $44,968, according to WBTV reports. However, his actions have now brought him significant legal consequences.

On July 27, DeSena entered a guilty plea as part of a plea agreement with the prosecution. As a result, he was sentenced to 60 months of probation and will not be required to register as a sex offender.
