Father of Georgia School Shooter Sentenced to 15 Years for Providing Gun Used in Mass Shooting

Judge Nicholas Primm has sentenced Colin Gray, the father of Colt Gray—the perpetrator of a deadly mass shooting at Apalachee High School—to 15 years in prison. This sentence comes days after his son was handed a life sentence without parole for the same incident that occurred on September 4, 2024. The shooting left four people dead and nine injured.

The tragedy unfolded when Colt Gray, then 14 years old, used an AR-15 rifle given to him by his father as a Christmas gift in 2023. Along with the firearm, Colin Gray also provided ammunition and a gun sight to his son. In the weeks leading up to the shooting, Colt's mother had reportedly asked Colin to limit her son’s access to guns but was ignored.

Colin Gray faced trial earlier this year and was found guilty of two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of involuntary manslaughter following the mass shooting at Apalachee High School. During his sentencing hearing on July 30, family members of the victims gave emotional statements highlighting the preventable nature of the tragedy.
