Teenager Apprehended in Texas Following Mother's Fatal Shooting in Oklahoma
A 13-year-old boy is in custody in Texas after his mother was discovered shot to death in Colbert, Oklahoma, on Friday evening. Bryan County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a deceased person shortly before 7 p.m., finding 31-year-old Malary Clayton with a gunshot wound. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) was called to assist, identifying the boy as a person of interest in the case.
An emergency alert was issued by the Oklahoma State Patrol, which quickly determined the teenager had crossed into Texas. Authorities in Texas located and apprehended the boy in Grayson County around 6:30 a.m. the following morning. He is currently held in a juvenile detention center in Texas, facing a booking on suspicion of first-degree murder.
The Bryan County District Attorney’s Office is now determining official charges. The proximity of Grayson County, Texas, to Bryan County, Oklahoma, where the incident occurred, allowed for the boy's relatively swift movement across state lines. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Malary Clayton's death and the boy's alleged involvement continues.
