Oklahoma Couple Dies in Murder-Suicide After Wife Accuses Husband of Pedophilia on TikTok

On July 23, a tragic murder-suicide occurred in Owasso, Oklahoma, resulting in the deaths of Sarah Gilson and her husband Jeremiah Shawn Duffey. The incident unfolded after police responded to reports of domestic violence following a 911 call where a woman's screams were heard, followed by a gunshot. A child subsequently called emergency services claiming his stepfather had shot his mother, leading officers to discover both individuals deceased from fatal head wounds.

The events leading up to this tragedy began on July 11 when Gilson posted a video on TikTok accusing her husband of being a pedophile. The post gained significant attention with over 22 million views and raised concerns about the safety of Gilson and her children. Duffey, who coached a girls' basketball team, was previously reported to have inappropriately touched a 15-year-old girl on multiple occasions. As a result, a judge had issued a protective order against him on June 10, mandating that he stay at least 100 yards away from Gilson and her children.

According to reports by KOCO News, Duffey was also charged with lewd molestation of a minor following the allegations. Additionally, Gilson had filed restraining orders against Duffey in 2021 for stalking and abuse, though these were dismissed when she did not attend the hearing. These incidents highlight a pattern of abusive behavior that culminated in the recent tragic events.

Lyle Landers, Gilson's ex-husband who shared custody of their children, expressed deep concern over her relationship with Duffey. He stated, "I had begged her for five years to get away from him." Despite his efforts and those of others, Gilson was unable to extricate herself from the dangerous situation.

Gilson, an influencer on TikTok with approximately 78,000 followers at the time of her death, is remembered as a devoted mother who prioritized her children's well-being. A GoFundMe page set up in support of her children describes Gilson as "an incredible mom" whose life revolved around providing for and protecting her family.

This case underscores the severe consequences that can arise from domestic abuse and the challenges faced by individuals seeking to escape such situations. The high-profile nature of Gilson's TikTok post brought attention to the allegations against Duffey, but ultimately could not prevent the tragic outcome.
