Air Force Trainee Achieves Perfect Score in Rigorous Intelligence Course

An airman from the Arkansas Air National Guard has set a new benchmark of excellence by achieving a perfect score at one of the U.S. Air Force's most challenging intelligence training programs. Airman First Class Ty Bishop, aged 21, completed the Apprentice Electronic Signals Intelligence Analyst Course with an impressive 100% academic average in July. This accomplishment is particularly notable as it marks the first time since the course was revamped in 2019 that a trainee has managed to score perfectly across all assessments.

The SIGINT analyst training program is renowned for its rigorous curriculum, which includes 16 tests and progress checks designed to evaluate participants' understanding of complex electromagnetic spectrum and radar theory. Capt. Dennis Tyukayev, the flight commander at Goodfellow Air Force Base in Texas where the course is conducted, praised Bishop's achievement as a testament to his mastery of the subject matter and his dedication to detail.

To qualify for this demanding training program, recruits must secure a score of 72 on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB), which ranks second among all Air Force job requirements. This high standard underscores the critical nature of signals intelligence work in modern military operations. SIGINT teams play a crucial role by collecting and analyzing radio, radar, and other emitted signals to provide actionable intelligence.

In 2025, nearly 300 students from various branches of the U.S. military, including the Air Force, Marines, and Space Force, completed this course. This year, another cohort of approximately 340 individuals is scheduled for graduation. The rarity of Bishop's perfect score highlights not only his exceptional abilities but also the significant challenge posed by the training regimen.
